THE PROCESS
My ceramics lean toward playful & whimsical designs with explorations in color, and a preference toward bare clay or clear glazes that give natural speckling a well deserved spotlight.
My current interests lie with bold underglazes, and explorations in pattern and texture. When paired with reserved forms, I find that my patterns have the moment all to themselves.
And yet, as someone who works alongside nature every day, I’m equally drawn to the quieter, earthen aesthetic often seen among ceramic arts. I’m eager to continue developments on more earthly forms, such as my beehive burners.
As I move forward in my independent creative efforts, I look forward to testing my own glaze combinations that represent the likeness of nature and a melting of earthy tones.
My goal is to create varied collections of artworks that speak to different parts of myself, and in turn speak to other people among whom they can find a functional home.
My work is always evolving, but at its core is a curiosity about what clay can become when there’s room to experiment.
THE person
With former experience in the field of conservation research, my instinct to explore questions, theories, and designs naturally found a new home in the pottery studio.
Raised exploring creeks and catching frogs in CNY forests, wheel throwing speaks to my messy inner child, and allows me to create something beautiful in respect out of what the Earth has given me.
